What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy (PT) is care that can relieve pain and help you function, move, and live better.

Our physical therapists are movement experts.  We aim to improve your quality of life through prescribed mobility plans that can promote injury healing, reduce pain, and prevent future injuries.

PT not only treats injuries but also identifies physical impairments early on that can be treated to prevent unnecessary pains and frustrations caused by limited mobility.

At ROMBOT, we believe that physical therapy is peak proactive medicine.

Think of it as the ultimate joint tune-up: checking in on how your joints are moving can help prevent future injuries. Correcting poor mobility early on can keep you moving longer, and more efficiently.  Our licensed physical therapists identify areas of your body that aren’t moving the way they should. Then we create a personalized plan that gets you moving, the right way. If you are feeling limited in daily functions, exercise, or sport and recreational activities due to pain or other symptoms, physical therapy is for you. Physical therapy is goal-oriented: if you have a mobility goal and are motivated to work towards that goal, you would benefit from physical therapy.

+ Who can benefit from physical therapy?

Anyone!

Physical therapy is goal-oriented

If you have a mobility goal to regain full range of motion after a surgery or injury, you would benefit from PT. If you have goals to increase your strength and flexibility, you would benefit from PT.

If you are feeling limited in daily functions, exercise, or sport and recreational activities due to pain or other symptoms, physical therapy is for you.

Our physical therapists are experts in their field, who can not only promote injury healing and reduce pain but identify other underlying physical impairments—flexibility or lack thereof, weakness, and joint stiffness—to holistically treat your body.

+ When do you need physical therapy?

Traditionally, you go to a physical therapist when you experience pain that results in limited mobility or loss of normal function. For example, if you twist your ankle while training for a marathon, or if you sit at a desk all day and your notice your back hurts.

We have two approaches to PT: reactive and proactive.

Our physical therapists treat conditions all over the body: hands, feet, ankle, shoulder, hip, knee, back, etc. Some common conditions that our physical therapists treat include:

  • Fractures,
  • Tendonitis,
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,
  • Muscle strain/sprain,
  • Meniscal tear,
  • Sports-based injuries,
  • Back pain,
  • Arthritis, and
  • Balance problems.

Our physical therapists are forward-thinking, which shows in our approach to clinical treatment. Our proactive physical therapy offerings include:

  • Ergonomic assessment;
  • Injury prevention;
  • Return to play, sport-specific hardening (such as preparing for ski seasons, professional sports, marathons, etc.);
  • Gait/running analysis; and
  • Fall prevention.

+ Physical Therapy at ROMBOT

At ROMBOT, you choose a physical therapist, who is licensed in your state from the Marketplace. Once you’ve selected a physical therapist, you schedule an assessment video call with them at your convenience. Your physical therapist will create a personalized program for a set number of weeks, all in the ROMBOT App. As you work through your program, you’ll schedule video calls to monitor progress towards your goals. The ROMBOT App tracks your daily progress. Our hardware contains a ROMBIT, which tracks your range of motion (ROM), giving you data-driven insights to get you moving. Faster. Better.

+ What our Movers are saying about ROMBOT

The level of attention and support was easily 10x what I would find in a traditional PT office. For instance, I’d go to a PT and get an initial overview but then get lobbed over to someone new. The paperwork is like filling out an application at a library [in addition to] the fact that I traveled 30 minutes. And then insurance companies put you in collections for a $5 bill. Even after quarantine, I would recommend it to anyone who is struggling with chronic pain and has not been satisfied with their PT experience. Especially, if you are a busy young professional who is starting to feel the effects of long hours and not looking for traditional PT. - Lance M.

I’ve had chronic pain for over a decade and always needed physical therapy but with shelter in place, it was difficult to get. I have used Kaiser and had varying degrees of whether the PT was good enough. Kaiser was not a good experience. Annie is amazing, her quality of work was great and she was able to offer good accessibility; easy to email. - Sarah I.

I really enjoyed working through the First Mover program! To begin, I met with Annie and she asked me about any previous injuries I had. I’ve had two knee surgeries in my right knee: one for a meniscal tear, the other for an MPFL reconstruction after being hit by a car. Both of these surgeries happened years ago, but I still have some weakness around my knee. After we went through my medical history, she created my program. It really helped target my inner quad, a typical problem area that I need to address. As we progressed, she increased exercise reps, and added harder exercises as I got stronger. Annie was great to work with, and I loved being able to incorporate these exercises into my overall exercise routine! - Danielle D.
